Avery Sharpe – Sojourner Truth “Ain’t I A Woman” project due for release May 2012

Avery is excited about making the public, and particularly the youth, aware of the struggle and contributions of African American abolitionist and woman's rights activist Sojourner Truth through original musical composition. The recording consist of compositions based on her life and famous speech she made for woman suffrage in 1851, later titled“Ain’t I A Woman”. The recording was completed in December 2011. The project is scheduled to tour with the  Jazz Sextet on the recording and slide/video show of her life. The Jazz Sextet features: Onaje Allan Gumbs-piano, Yoron Israel-drums, Craig Handy-saxophones, Duane Eubanks-trumpet, Jeri Brown-vocals and of course Avery Sharpe-bass.

Avery Sharpe's new recording Running Man is now available. This recording features Avery on acoustic bass and 6 string electric bass, longtime associate Onaje Allan Gumbs on piano, Yoron Israel on drums, Craig Handy on soprano and tenor saxophones, and Maya Sharpe on vocals. The recording showcases six of Avery's originals and compositions by Onaje, Yoron, Craig and Maya.
